HDP condemns Saudi led airstrikes against Yemen People

The coalition of states led by Saudi Arabia have been conducting devastating air raid on Yemeni cities resulting in the deaths of thousands of civilians. The recent reports that at least 140 civilians have been massacred in the Saudi air strike on a funeral in Yemen are most unacceptable and appalling. We as Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) strongly condemn the massacres against civilians in Yemen and all those that provide open or tacit encouragement to politics of massacre; be it through alliances with the perpetrator states in the case of Turkey or through inaction and silence in the face of these crimes. And immediate end must be given to these massacre operations and alternative methods of political solution should be adopted.

In the same vein, all those military operations that result in mass killing of civilian populations in many parts of the Middle East and particularly in Syria must be urgently put under investigation by independent international institutions. The Middle East has been the site of most extensive and systematic war crimes committed since World War 2 and yet no sanctions or preventative mechanism are being put in force. This situation keeps undermining possibilities of building a social climate where freedom can thrive and peoples can coexist in a spirit of peace and freedom in the Middle East.  Unfortunately, the West keeps overlooking the attempts to exacerbate polarization and animosity between religions, faiths and ethnic identities. And the crimes committed by these groups go unpunished.

The air strikes targeting civilians by Saudi Arabia in Yemen and by the Assad regime in Syrian cities headed by Aleppo are unacceptable. Geneva Conventions which constitute the basis for the Law of War demands that independent institutions of international law intervene in cases of all attacks that result in civilian losses.

Peoples Democratic Party invites international public to sensitivity on such massacres and all those international institutions that uphold human rights to cooperate to prevent and put an end to these war crimes.
