Our delegation consisting of party spokesperson Osman Baydemir and MPs Feleknas Uca, Ertuğrul Kürkçü, Mithat Sancar and HDP Europe representative Eyyup Doru continues to pay official visits in Strasbourg.
The delegation met with Ms Gabi Zimmer, the Chair of European United Left - Nordic Green Left - European Parliamentary Group; Ms Martina Michels, Left Party MP; Ms Kati Piri, European Parliament Turkey Rapporteur; Mr. Sergei Stanishev, President of the Party of European Socialists; and Ms Fabrizia Panzetti, Deputy Head of Cabinet of the High Representative Federica Mogherini.
The situation of our imprisoned co-chairs and MPs was the primary subject of the talks. The delegation explained the grounds of their application, which was submitted to the ECHR yesterday requesting 'an urgent examination' and 'decision to take precautionary measures’.
Reminding their addressees of the fact that Figen Yüksekdağ and Nursel Aydoğan have been stripped of their seats in parliament, the delegation stated that there is a possibility that all HDP MPs may lose their status unless the ECHR takes a decision on parliamentary immunity.
Issues such as State of Emergency ["OHAL"] practices in Turkey, the ineffectiveness and politicization of the judiciary were also discussed during the meetings.
