DTK (Democratic Society Congress) co-president and HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) Şırnak deputy Selma Irmak, Van MP Kemal Aktaş, Istanbul MP Sebahat Tuncel and former MEP Feleknas Uca, a current member of the executive board of the DTK, have started hunger strike in front of the United Nations Office at Geneva to call attention to the ongoing attacks of ISIS gangs on the Kobanê Canton of West Kurdistan.
Speaking at a statement to the press here, HDP Şırnak MP, Selma Irmak, said the silence of international organizations and INGOs concerning the humanitarian tragedy in Rojava essentially in Kobanê was unacceptable.
Irmak, reminding that she had carried out some observations in Kobanê before coming to Geneva, called attention to the determined struggle given there, adding; “Against ISIS, international organizations has remained indifferent; are watching whereas holding forth on democracy. Those discourses mean nothing while Kurds are facing massacre.”
Irmak stressed that the YPG (People’s Protection Units) are putting up a fight for not only Kurds but also all other peoples living in the Middle East including Assyrians, Syrians, Arabs and Turkmenians. Irmak, also, criticized some media organs for waging a psychological warfare against YPG .
“The Kurds and YPG guerillas are fighting alone against this brutal organization”, Irmak said and added that they have started this protest in order to break the wall of silence of international organizations and to raise awareness of the world public opinion.
After Irmak’s speech, HDP Istanbul MP Sebahat Tuncel emphasized that not only ISIS but also all international organizations and bodies that keep silent at the current situation will be responsible for a probable massacre in Kobanê.
Tuncel said ISIS was created by international/imperialist powers with an aim to reshape/redesign the Middle East, stressing that it was now time to say stop to the brutal organization aiming to destroy the humanity.
Speaking after Tuncel, Aktaş and Uca also called on international bodies to give an active struggle against ISIS, adding that they would not end their protest until they attained a result.
The deputies on hunger strike have been visited by a large number of Kurds living in Europe.
