The gala premiere of the movie “Trans X Istanbul” at the 33rd Istanbul Film Festival organized annually by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV) was took place at ‘Atlas Sineması’. The movie and director Maria Binder have been nominated for respective prizes under the ‘Human Rights’ genre this year as the movie focuses on the discrimination against transgender peoples and hate crimes in Istanbul.

HDP’s Istanbul MP Levent Tüzel also joined the gala premier before which gala participants gathered in front of the theater to protest against hate crimes and discrimination against LGBTQ individuals in Turkey. The group chanted “Transgender murders are political murders” and “Get used to us, we will stay”. Following the premier, director Binder and the actors took the stage for a Q&A session before which they were welcomed with a huge applause from the audience.
