Jonas Sjöstedt: As long as HDP MPs are kept in prison, well keep raising the issue

After the denial of their request to see our Co-Chair Figen Yüksekdağ, Swedish Left Party leader Jonas Sjöstedt and HDP delegation made statement in front of Kandira Prison.

Our Vice Co-chair Aysel Tuğluk:

Even the [court] case documents we deliver to Yüksekdağ are seized. Her meeting with her lawyer is recorded on camera. A special type of isolation is implemented against Yüksekdağ, and this is done with an order from above. Their entire effort aims to prevent Yüksekdağ's messages.

Tuğluk who is a lawyer also delivered a message from Yüksekdağ.  Yüksekdağ stated the following in her message: 'Our cause is the coexistence of peoples of Turkey.  And they want to stop us from achieving it. But we are determined! Everyone should keep this hope alive.'

The leader of Swedish Left Party, Jonas Sjöstedt: We think there is no excuse for keeping Yüksekdağ in isolation. She has the right to meet fellow MPs from other European countries to exchange views. We’re deeply worried about the way that Turkish authorities treat the imprisoned members of the HDP. I assure you one thing: as long as HDP MPs are kept in prison we will keep on coming and attending their trials, raising the issue at our national and European parliaments.
